PSG ‘make decision’ on Marcus Rashford transfer after learning full cost to replace Kylian Mbappe

Marcus Rashford has been heavily linked with a move to PSG as they search for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, though the Manchester United star has endured a wretched season

PSG are pulling their interest in Marcus Rashford after being told he would cost £100million.

Rashford has endured a wretched campaign, scoring just eight goals in all competitions. His performances this year have been in stark contrast to last season, when he notched 30 strikes in boss Erik ten Hag’s debut campaign. His form last season earned him a new five-year contract in the summer, with another four years left to run. That new deal put him on a wage of £325,000, with the attacker thought to be United’s highest earner.

Rashford has failed to live up to that standing this year though, in what has been a largely miserable campaign for Ten Hag’s troops. There had been suggestions that he could be offered an exit route by PSG, who are searching for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe. Last month, Mirror Football reported the French giants were lining up a £75m bid for the England international. But according to The Sun, PSG’s interest in Rashford is now fading.

The Ligue 1 leaders are said to have made it clear they now have ‘no interest’ in the attacker. Instead, they are said to believe that the 26-year-old used rumours of a potential move as leverage in contract negotiations. His dreadful performances this season have also convinced PSG to give up their chase for the 26-year-old. While a £75m bid had been floated, it was thought United would be looking for closer to £100m.

Rashford will now turn his focus towards turning around his form, having disappointed once again in the draw with Bournemouth. Earlier this month, United legend Gary Neville insisted Rashford’s difficult year was becoming a major problem. “Marcus Rashford, I don’t know how to say this, but to me there’s something not right. He’s not right, and it’s not just a case of him not playing well, he doesn’t look happy. I’m looking at him and thinking, I am worried about him,” Neville told the Stick to Football podcast.

“We know there’s been a couple of instances this season, he’s come under pressure and his form has been bad, but I look at him and think that’s not right. It’s not a lad that’s grown up with the freedom and spirit of playing for Manchester United as a kid. I mean, we are talking about Manchester United currently and the reason that I think Marcus Rashford is the continual element of focus is because he’s a huge player at the club. You know, he’s the biggest player at the club, along with Bruno Fernandes.

“So, they are the two that will always gain the most headlines. But through this period, obviously when the boss left it’s been talked about now for, I don’t know how long – 10/11 years ago – you [Rio] were there at the very beginning, when obviously it went from the boss leaving to this new era, which has been a struggle.”
