PSG are ready to break the world transfer record for a second time by offering Barcelona a staggering €250 million for Lamine Yamal as they attempt to fill the void left by the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
PSG’s stunning 2017 acquisition of Neymar from Barca for €222m smashed the previous record transfer, with only their subsequent signing of Mbappe for €180m a year later after a one-season loan even coming close to matching that figure in the past.
Mundo Deportivo, though, claims that the Parc des Princes outfit are lining up a deal that would eclipse either of those previous transfers.
“Barcelona have learned that PSG are willing to put up €250m to try to sign Lamine Yamal. For Barca, though, there is no room for negotiation: Lamine is not for sale under any circumstances,” the Catalan source reports.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already claimed that he knocked back an offer from an unnamed for Lamine Yamal for €200m. Mundo Deportivo claims this was PSG, who see the 16-year-old as the “ideal successor” to Real Madrid-bound Mbappe.
From the player’s side, though, it is claimed that Jorge Mendes, Yamal’s agent, is not pushing for a move because he is pleased with the trajectory of the youngster, who will celebrate his 17th birthday on 13 July, at Barcelona.
The truth behind PSG’s Lamine Yamal interest
There is likely to be limited strength behind this story, regardless of PSG’s admiration of the teenager. The Parisian side have already indicated that they are about to cut back on their spending and take a more circumspect approach in the transfer market to the deal that brought Neymar to the club for €222m.
Offering €250m for Lamine Yamal, whose Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €51.5m, does not align with those principles.
Equally, he operates primarily on the right wing, where PSG boss Luis Enrique considers Ousmane Dembele untouchable. The French club are targeting a left winger this summer.
